Passenger Tracks Missing Luggage to Airport Worker’s Home

June 7, 2024 9:54 am in by

A Spirit Airlines passenger managed to locate her lost luggage at an airport worker’s home thanks to her Apple Watch. Paola Garcia, flying from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, had to check in her suitcase. After waiting for two hours at baggage claim, she realised her suitcase was missing.

Despite assurances from Spirit Airlines that her luggage would be delivered to her home, Garcia’s Apple Watch signalled the next morning from an address in Fort Lauderdale. Concerned about her missing laptop needed for university, Garcia visited the address. There, she discovered numerous suitcases strewn across the property.

She documented the scene and called 911. Police officers stressed the danger of her visit. The Broward Sheriff’s Office traced the address to Junior Bazile, who was arrested on March 8 for grand theft. Employed by a company running retail stores at the airport, Bazile was found with stolen items, including electronics, jewellery, and high-end clothing.

Spirit Airlines responded by stating that although no evidence implicates their employees, they issued a reimbursement check to Garcia on May 20, 2024, as a gesture of goodwill.
